TAAConnect – supporting respiratory research

TAAConnect has announced a five-year sponsorship deal that will help to improve the health of Queenslanders.

TAAConnect will sponsor the Respiratory Research Office of The Wesley Research Institute (WRI) in Brisbane.

The Respiratory Research Office will become a home for collaborative clinical research using state-of-the-art research and training facilities.

TAAConnect General Manager Bruce Swan said it was an easy decision to support the WRI.

“As a local company we like to support other local organisations, and the Wesley is an incredibly important part of our community that strives for excellence,” he said.

“We have been so impressed with the people and the great work that they do.”

WRI researchers are working on a range of respiratory projects including pulmonary hypertension and asbestos-related diseases.

Pulmonary hypertension is high blood pressure in the arteries that supply the lungs. The WRI study – led by Dr John Feenstra - is investigating a new treatment to help reduce this pressure and, as a result, decrease breathlessness and improve heart function.

The WRI Asbestos Research Group was initiated by Dr Maurice Heiner and Dr Roger Allen. The group’s research seeks to find better and faster ways to diagnose and treat mesothelioma and other debilitating asbestos-related diseases.
